The V.C. to whom these letters were addressed was Violet Georgina Milner, Viscountess Milner (née Maxse; 1 February 1872 – 10 October 1958) married Lord Edward Herbert Gascoyne-Cecil KCMG DSO (12 July 1867 – 13 December 1918) in 1894 and gave birth to her first child George Edward Gascoyne-Cecil born on 9 September 1895. Violet was Olive Maxse sister and both sat to Burne-Jones. Violet was a close friend of Frances Horner.
