Between 1890 and 1907, Morris & Co. produced ten versions of the Adoration, the firm's most popular ecclesiastical tapestry. It was originally woven for Exeter College, Oxford, and it is still on display in its chapel. When completed, Morris said of the tapestry "nothing better of the kind…has even been done, old or new." This design illustrates Dearle's penchant for the "millefleurs" pattern, the clumps of flowers often seen in medieval Flemish tapestries. He frequently used this motif in his tapestry designs, assembling the groups of flowers from careful studies of local British flora.
