A study for the figure of 'The Blessed Damozel' (1860), a gouache commissioned by Burne-Jones's early supporter and patron, the Leeds stockbroker Thomas E Plint (1823-61), now in the Fogg Museum, Harvard University, Boston. In his treatment of the subject Burne-Jones was inspired by Rossetti's poem of the same title, printed in 'The Germ' in 1850. Purchased and presented by subscribers, 1903.
