This stained glass design was formerly attributed to Edward Burne-Jones, but has now been identified with Philip Speakman Webb. It is a design for one of the south windows in the nave of King's Stanley Church, Gloucestershire and relates to Burne-Jones's design for Selsey Church. Bequeathed by James Richardson Holliday, 1927.
Morris, Marshall, Fauklner & Co. design. Architectural setting drawn by Philip Webb with the figural details drawn by Burne-Jones, differing considerably from the final window. Burne-Jones made the small preliminary drawing which may be that referred to in the Fitzwilliam Account book 1862 Jany. 1 Small desg. for King Stanley (sic) Ch. 1 0 (£).
It remained the only complete scheme of glazing for a church, designed and executed at all the same period, and is thus of outstanding importance as an example of the firm's early work.
