The amount of work Burne-Jones did in collaboration with William Morris is almost immeasurable. This design is for panels 7 and 8 of the well known set of tapestries which Morris did for Stanmore Hall in 1893. The medieval taste of the two artists was never more in evidence.
The catalogue of the 1893 Arts and Crafts exhibition is incorrect in stating that this was a first sketch of the design as the rectangular area on the right of the design indicates the space that allowed for the door door of the dining room at Stanmore Hall. This sketch therefore, must have been made at a later stage.
