The illustrations to "Cupid and Pysche" were designed by Burne-Jones. Many of them, although not this one, were engraved by William Morris. The rest were cut by G Y Wardle (the donor of this set), G F Campfield and L Faulkner. They were part of a projected illustrated book of Morris's poems, "The Earthly Paradise", never actually published. The volume, half-bound in mottled brown and green paper and green leather, lettered on the spine 'Cupid and Psyche', contains fifty four wood-engravings. Pasted into the front of the volume is an autograph letter from George Young Wardle.
