Most of the drawings in this notebook date from the holiday which the Burne-Joneses and the Morrises spent at Oxford in August 1867. They include a series of landscape sketches made on the river and an interesting group of copies after the Raphael and Micelangelo drawings in the Ashmolean Museum. The book also contains studies for The Lament of 1866 (no. 93 [1973 Burne-Jones exhibition]) and lists of subjects for Earthly Paradise illustrations.
