The present lot consists of two designs for the windows of St. Mary's, Speldhurst, conceived circa 1873 by Burne-Jones for Morris & Co. Speldhurst's original medieval church was destroyed by lightning in 1791; a second church, built shortly after, was entirely replaced by the current structure in 1870-1; the stained glass was installed over the following decade. There is a design in black chalk for another of the windows in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum. Bonhams 2020
