This lot is accompanied by a letter from Margaret MacKail, the artist's daughter, explaining that the drawing was a design for a wedding present for Laura Lyttleton and sending it to a member of the Lyttleton family. This decoration was made for a set of beateon silver ornaments that Burne-Jones created as a wedding present for Laura Tennant in1885, on the occasion of her wedding to lawyer and Liberal Unionist politician Alfred Lyttleton.
