Desiderium does not appear in either of the two compositions for The Masque of Cupid and would therefore suggest that there was to have been a third.
This platinotype is the only record of the drawing before the right side was cut off, presumably by a member of the artist's family, before it was gifted to the Tate Gallery by the artist's son Philip in 1910.
