This is the only known example of a still life drawing by Burne-Jones and is difficult to date. Martin Harrison and Bill Waters relate it to the still life groups on the frame of the Troy Triptych (begun in 1870), but these consist of apples, and the drawing may in fact be earlier. Bequeathed by James Richardson Holliday, 1927.
