Northend. Sep 22 /73 d.l.m. But tell me where I / can see pictures - for you / have not told me yet as far / as I can remember - the / entombment copy has not yet / turned up - I dare say it / will in a day or two - thanks / an exciting delay about all / arrivals from Italy, very / new & refreshingly in these / American days, reminding / one of Crusading epochs - / tell me its ransom and it / shall be sent to you at / once. also the photos / haven't come but they are / sure to arrive tomorrow. / W. Morris has come back / more enslaved with passion / for ice and snow and raw / fish than ever - I fear I / shall never drag him to / Italy again - he's very well / and in good spirits - from / Mr. Webb I suppose you hear. / Mr. Stanhope came up / to town to day, and I / am going across to look at / his continental Bradshaw. / a bit & console myself - / I don't know when I shall / get to Italy again, not at / least till next Autumn I / fear, for I am overwhelmed / with overdue work. / have you learnt to speak / Italian yet, - write & tell / me much more about / how the days go - when / you get up and what / you see out of the window / and whom you talk to and / when you go to bed - I / live a great deal in Siena / now, & remember it with / the utmost affection - I / may say quite literally / that I walk about here / and live in Italy - What books have you got & how do you spend the / hours not at work / - nothing happens here I'm / glad to say - I work / very hard just now / and meditate a sky light / to my studio to enliven / it with the enchanting / prospect one gets in that / way. / the value of the photographs / from the pulpit depends / much on the exact point / of sight they take - are / they really good - I found / nearly all photo of / architecture utterly / disappointing - especially / of my loved Duomo at / Florence / all well / youraffect / EB-J
