Studies of feathers as preparation for Angel's wings in stained glass windows. The Angel of the Annunciation in the rose window of St Martin-on-the-Hill, Scarborough has realistic wings with slightly disheveled feathers. Later on Burne-Jones developed a stylized system in which the depiction of feathers was more regular.
