Fitzwilliam Account book 1862 May 12 Tiles 12 3 - - (£) The quality of these drawings points to the sepia cartoons for the other Goode Wimmen tiles (Tate Britain Thisbe Acc no A01171, Figure of a Queen, Acc no A01170, Dido Acc no A01172 ) being from the hand of another artist employed in the workshop of The Firm. The intermediate simplification was required to enable a less accomplished workshop assistant e.g Lucy Faulkner, to paint the tiles. These designs having survived in such good condition is possibly because they were not used in the production of the series finished tiles. The hanging Golden fleece and the book would identify the crowned figure as being Medea.
