This design does not appear as such in the stained glass at Peterhouse. The figure is depicted in the same posture, but instead of holding three balls in her right hand she holds a sprig, and the palm in the left is replaced by a sword. With these alterations the figure is given as Thisbe, and is inscribed as such in the glass. Thisbe is the left-hand figure in the second light of the bay window in the Combination Room at Peterhouse. The cartoon for this drawing, with the minor alterations mentioned above, and given as Thisbe, is at the City of Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (No. 518'04).
Replying to an enquiry from PN, William Waters stated: It is confusing! The figures on the left are as follows: Ariadne Cleopatra Hypermnestra Hypsiphele Thisbe I hope this clears up the inconsistences caused by some anonymous person after they were designed in 1864 for Birket Foster.
