This little sketchbook can be dated 1882 as it contains a series of rough sketches for the Flower Book (no. 318 [1975 Burne-Jones cat.]), which was started that year. It is shown here [1975 Burne-Jones cat.]), however, for a series of designs for jewellery. These nearly all have bird motives which make them comparable to no. 216 [1975 Burne-Jones cat.]), although Lady Burne-Jones implies thatnn0. 216 was designed and made at a later date. Designs of Jewellery also occur in the Wightwick sketchbook of 1862-3 (no. 339 [1975 Burne-Jones cat.]) and the so-called 'Secret Book of Designs' (no. 327).
