The Princess Sabra, (no 1) from a group of six drawings depicting the legend of 'St George and the Dragon'; whole-length standing to right, wearing long dress, the skirt of which she holds with her right hand, a book in her left hand, a garden trellis behind, woods beyond. c.1865 This drawing and 1954,0508.13 and 1954,0508.14 are finished studies for three of the series of seven paintings on canvas illustrating the legend of St George, which Burne Jones painted in 1865-7 for the decoration of The Hill at Witley in Surrey, the house of the landscape watercolourist Myles Birket Foster. The series is now dispersed, and the painting of the princess in the garden is now in the Musée d'Orsay.
