Casts of the fourteenth century story of the creation and fall of Adam and Eve from Rouen Cathedral, were in the collection of the Architectural Museum and these were probably part of the loan to the South Kensington Museum from 1861-67. The loose copies that Burne-Jones made from them, are rare examples of him allowing himself to introduce a humorous bent, which is in fact in character with a medieval frame of mind. Morris and Burne-Jones had visited Rouen cathedral in 1855.
