Dated in error by Sewter as 1864, stylistically this design can be dated to c.1873-4. In the bottom right corner is a comic drawing or a Rubensian male presumably playing an instrument made as a demonstration of how that artist might have drawn the subject. Georgiana Burne-Jones records that many of his designs were made in the evenings surrounded by his family and the drawing may well have been added for their amusement.
Sewter reproduces this cartoon and identifies it as possibly being for All Saints Church, Middleton Cheney, Nothants c.1864-5. This is incorrect as stylistically the cartoon dates from c. 1873-4 and as yet the stained glass location remains un-located if it exists.
