The entry for the other designs in BJ's A/c book is dated 1871 'St Hugh, St peter, St George ... £36' (BJ had originally written £45, but this figure had been deleted and the lower substituted) 'slight and hurried in handling, I admit - but there is my own vigour of design & massive treatment of drapery. Now I am off for Italy with the money I have so honourably earned.' On the opposite page is a note about the price: 'I am very sorry, but the words of the tariff are "up to 4ft. £12, over 4 ft. £15"', to which BJ has added: 'I am also sorry & very much more than you. EBJ.' The St Hugh included in this entry is no doubt the Hugo de Balsham used in the previous window. It looks as though the intention had originally been to put the three BJ designs in one window, and the 3 FMB designs in another. This would, perhaps, have been preferable to the present arrangement.
