Charles Fairfax Murray was incorrect in relating these drawings to the South Kensington panels although the Seasons and Day and Night were offshoots of the South Kensington project. These sketches relate to Day and Night, Spring and Summer which Burne-Jones painted for Frederick Leyland in 1868-9. As they are preliminary sketches the resultant paintings were considerably different.
