Fitzwilliam Account Book 1875 Jesus. Nave Injustice - a panel to go under Justice 10 (£) To the left of the cartoon in the margin are two alternative ideas for the subject. the upper has a blindfold figure of Justice with his scales being influenced by two figures standing behind him, tilting the scales. The sketch below contains the idea which became the basis for the cartoon in which two figures probably representing Tyranny and foolishness, whisper into the ears of the blindfold King. Inscribed around the cartoon is as follows "The picture to be Tyranny personified or some act of Justice or Triumph of Justice Allegory of Justice and Tyranny or what you will" in William Morris's hand giving an indication of what the proposed subject might be. "Judge orange Fool purple bronze ?" probably in Burne-Jones's hand. The window in Jesus College Chapel extends the medieval idea of the Virtues standing upon their relative Vices and in this case a figure of Justice (full length) stand immediately above the present design.
