This preparatory sketch of the sixth maiden on the stairs at the top right holding a tambourine by her side, shows her dress garlanded with ivy leaves, which in Phillips' Floral Emblems (1825) signifies fidelity in friendship, this was altered in the painting to laurel leaves signifying glory.
