There is a possibility that this uncharacteristic watercolor drawing was made in the Studio by Maria Zambaco, An unusual work on linen, the figure has been laid in by an assistant and the highlights have been applied by the Master. The flying draperies lack the subtlety of Burne-Jones and since they appear to follow that of the painting, this suggests that it was made after the painting was completed.
