The fact that the drawing of the Tree of Forgiveness is exactly as the painting could be: A. That it is a subsequent tracing of an image of the final painting B. That it was made by an assistant to aid in the under-painting This is born out by the fact that the outlines of the bodies in the painting are quite distinct The shading is not like that of Burne-Jones but again is exactly like the finished painting, the faces are quite different in feel. This is a very fine drawing but would not now appear to be from the hand of the Master so "Attributed to.." is the best conclusion. I worked from a photograph so I was unable to see the texture of the paper. We really need to see the original for a definitive opinion.
