From a bound volume containing 86 studies for illustrations to 'The Story of Cupid and Psyche' made to accompany the poem in William Morris''The Earthly Paradise'. The design for this subject did not reach the print stage. The figures of Psyche and Proserpine are placed on the right of the composition, in front of the table and the bench, instead of on the left within the colonnade as in and the small study on the upper right. On the reverse is a rough pencil sketch of 'Venus and Her Attendants'.
