This is one of 86 studies for illustrations to 'The Story of Cupid and Psyche' made to accompany the poem in William Morris''The Earthly Paradise'. The temple, however, is behind Ceres who holds a scythe, with a landscape of corn and stalks to the right, as the sun appears over the horizon.
