The inscription on the upper right of this drawing would appear to refer to the destination of the window for which this was a design, but does not seem to have been executed in any of the locations in Glasgow for which Morris & Co supplied glass. The east window at Townhead Blochairn Church does contain figures of Moses, David, Sts John the Baptist and Paul, but they differ considerably from the figures in this study. It is therefore possible that this design is an early conception of the figures for the Townhead Blochairn Church. This cartoon was not catalogued by A E Whitley in 1939.
Fitzwilliam Account book (1866) ... 4 Fogies Moses & Co £7 each 28 These four figures appear in the east window of Townhead Blochairn Church, Glasgow, but with significant differences from the present drawing, which would indicate that the cartoons which were produced were not based upon these drawings.
