The Eagle is often a Solar symbol and can be linked to all sky Gods. It signifies inspiration, release from bondage, victory and longevity, possibly recalling Burne-Jones's interest in heraldic symbols associated with the Arthurian Knights. Eagles appear in the Kelmscott Chaucer in the illustrations for The House of Fame and The Parlement of Foules.
