A study for the sixth painting in the series of seven canvases illustrating 'The Story of St George' for the dining room of the artist Myles Birket Foster, at Witley, Surrey. One of fifteen studies for this subject in Birmingham's collection. Whitley states that this study is probably for the figure of St. George in either 'St. George Slaying the Dragon' or 'The Return of St. George'. However, this study seems most closely associated with the Princess in 'St. George Slaying the Dragon', compositionally mirroring the robes of the kneeling girl (see the reverse drawing in particular). The final painting is now in the collection of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney. A gouache version, omitting the Princess, is owned by William Morris Museum, Walthamstow.
