A study for the sixth painting in the series of seven canvases illustrating 'The Story of St George' for the dining room of the artist Myles Birket Foster, at Witley, Surrey. One of fifteen studies for this subject in Birmingham's collection. Verso are contains eight pencil sketches for 'The Princess Chained to the Tree'. The final paintings are now in the collection of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney and a Private Collection.. A gouache version, omitting the Princess, is owned by William Morris Museum, Walthamstow. Bequeathed by James Richardson Holliday, 1927.
