A sketch for the third painting in the series of seven canvases illustrating 'The Story of St George' for the dining room of the artist Myles Birket Foster, at Witley, Surrey. This scene refers to the Princess drawing the fatal lot labelled 'Moritura' (She who shall die). In the painting the princess does not lean back as far as in this study, and her right hand is stretched further forward. The 1865 finished drawing is in the collection of the British Museum, and the 1866 oil painting is in the collection of Hanover College, Indiana.
