This study is also known as 'The Altar of Hymen', in Morris's verse from 'The Earthly Paradise' this scene is not recounted explicitly, but rather hinted at through Galatea's own words. It shows the marriage of Pygmalion and Galatea. The outline figures of Pygmalion and Galatea are identical in composition to those in 1927P630, but those of Venus and Cupid are only loosely suggested, and have been somewhat altered in the final design. The background is also omitted in this study.
