In the mid-1860s when Burne-Jones was making the Cupid and Psyche woodcuts were being prepared it was not unnatural that such intense attention would trans-locate into his design work for stained glass. There is a inter-relationship between many of the figures and musical Angels and it it sometimes difficult to discern which of the studies are for glass and which are for the woodcuts. The same model was used and the studio props of musical instruments can frequently be seen in both. The pressure of work at this time was increasingly great, through the necessity to earn a living.
