At this early date in the history of The Firm, it may be that Burne-Jones reduced his original drawing into simple forms and lines to be copied more easily. This drawing may have been his own work but it is more likely that one of the newly recruited workshop artists made it. These were highly competent young men at the beginning of their careers, some who were guided to The Firm by William Bell Scott from the School of Design in Newcastle.
