The probable original source for An Angel playing a Trumpet stained glass at Cheddleton was a fourteenth century window in Wells Cathedral. It was also the possible origin for the figure playing the long trumpet which Burne-Jones made as a preliminary design for the decoration of William Morris's play "Love is enough", although the illustrations were abandoned and the play appeared unadorned in 1871.
