Emily Ayscough Turner 1845-1910 (b. Stamford Hill, Greater London) was the wife of Sir Charles Arthur Turner, K.C.M.G., C.I.E and eldest daughter of W. S. Hodgkinson of Wookey Hole, Somerset. They lived in India and at 62 Ennismore Gardens, London SW. Sir Charles Arthur Turner, K.C.I.E (6 March 1833 – 20 October 1907) was a British jurist, Chief Justice of Madras High Court. He was the first barrister judge appointed directly to the Allahabad High Court from England. The connection with the sitter was most likely through the Kiplings who were residents of Allahabad from 1887.
