A frequently occurring idea in the 1890s, was the re-union in Heaven of Souls that had loved one another on Earth. Burne-Jones was meditating on mortality as he had been diagnosed with a heart condition and this probably brought about such speculations. This drawing is a mirror version of Welcome to the House from the Flower Book, the commonality of these two books of ideas emphasizes the artist's view and the inward turning of his mind at a time when he felt that his fame was declining in favour of a change in artistic taste towards Impressionism and modern plein-airism.
