The elevation of the West end of the American Church in Rome, St Paul's Within the Walls was not carried out owing to lack of funds and the death of Burne-Jones. However he was able to realize his ambition by using a Day of Judgement stained glass design for the west end of St Philip's Cathedral Birmingham designed contemporaneously in 1889. An angel detail for the upper section is drawn on p. 378 of the Secret Book of Designs. Note: the rose window of the American Church in Rome was not by Morris & Co. in the final commission but by Clayton and Bell.
