A study in contrasts, billowing fabrics only occur in Burne-Jones' later work such as in Sponsa di Libano (1891-2) and an illustration to the House of Fame (Kelmscott Chaucer c1892). The more solemn figure of a woman reading has something of the character of Flamma Vestalis, a single woman contemplating a rosary rather than reading.
