This pair of windows was created from a set of cartoons designed by Burne-Jones and William Morris in 1883 for the "Vineland" estate in Newport, Rhode Island, which featured a suite of nine stained glass windows with Nordic themes. The original windows were removed in 1934, and not all of their current locations are known. The Lux-Fournier firm was active from the 1900s-1940s, run by Lucien Fournier (1868-1962). He trained at the Ecole de Beaux-Arts in Tours, and produced numerous windows for public and ecclesiastical buildings around Europe. Odin is the one-eyed god of knowledge and healing; he is recognisable here wearing his broad hat, grouped with his two ravens, Huginn and Muginn, as well as his wolves Geri and Freki, who bring him information from all over Midgard. Frey is the god of sunshine and fertility; he is recognisable here by the rays of light emanating from his person and by his magical boar, Gullinbursti.
